چکیده

We study the dynamic critical behavior of the multi-grid Monte Carlo (MGMC) algorithm with piecewise-constant interpolation applied to the two-dimensional O(4)symmetric nonlinear σ-model [= SU(2) principal chiral model], on lattices up to 256 × 256. We find a dynamic critical exponent zint,M2 = 0.60 ± 0.07 for the Wcycle and zint,M2 = 1.13 ± 0.11 for the V-cycle, compared to zint,M2 = 2.0 ± 0.15 for the single-site heat-bath algorithm (subjective 68% confidence intervals). Thus, for this asymptotically free model, critical slowing-down is greatly reduced compared to local algorithms, but not completely eliminated. For a 256× 256 lattice, W-cycle MGMC is about 35 times as efficient as a single-site heat-bath algorithm.

Multi-Grid Monte Carlo via XY Embedding I. General Theory and Two-Dimensional O(N)-Symmetric Nonlinear σ-Models

We introduce a variant of the multi-grid Monte Carlo (MGMC) method, based on the embedding of an XY model into the target model, and we study its mathematical properties for a variety of nonlinear σ-models. We then apply the method to the twodimensional O(N)-symmetric nonlinear σ-models (also called N -vector models) with N = 3, 4, 8 and study its dynamic critical behavior. Using lattices up to...

We study a class of Monte Carlo algorithms for the nonlinear σ-model, based on a Wolff-type embedding of Ising spins into the target manifold M . We argue heuristically that, at least for an asymptotically free model, such an algorithm can have dynamic critical exponent z ≪ 2 only if the embedding is based on an (involutive) isometry of M whose fixed-point manifold has codimension 1. Such an is...

Nonlinear σ-model, form factors and universality

We report the results of a very high statistics Monte Carlo study of the continuum limit of the two dimensional O(3) non-linear σ model. We find a significant discrepancy between the continuum extrapolation of our data and the form factor prediction of Balog and Niedermaier, inspired by the Zamolodchikovs’ S-matrix ansatz. On the other hand our results for the O(3) and the dodecahedron model ar...

Iterating Block Spin Transformations of the O ( 3 ) Non - Linear σ - Model

We study the iteration of block spin transformations in the O(3) symmetric non-linear σ-model on a two-dimensional square lattice with help of the Monte Carlo method. In contrast to the classical Monte Carlo Renormalization Group approach, we do attempt to explicitly compute the block spin effective actions. Using two different methods for the determination of effective couplings, we study the ...

Probabilistic Multi Objective Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch Considering Load Uncertainties Using Monte Carlo Simulations

Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) is a multi-variable problem with nonlinear constraints and continuous/discrete decision variables. Due to the stochastic behavior of loads, the ORPD requires a probabilistic mathematical model. In this paper, Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) is used for modeling of load uncertainties in the ORPD problem. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear constrained mul...
